Caerphilly sits in a basin between ridges at the southern end of the valleys, and the terrain here is unusually decisive. Properties on the ridges above Senghenydd, Bedwas and Machen often have excellent sky views, while those low on the valley floor can be significantly shaded.

Steep-sided former mining valleys separated by high open ridges. The difference between a valley-floor and a ridge position is more pronounced here than almost anywhere else we work.
Valley terraces, post-war housing, stone cottages and smallholdings on the hillsides, and farms on the ridge tops.
Above the terraces, the hillsides carry grazing land, smallholdings and scattered farms that sit outside the reach of the infrastructure serving the valley floor.
Terraced properties usually need a roof or high wall mount to clear neighbouring rooflines and the valley side. Hillside farms are typically straightforward.
Small rural businesses, workshops and equestrian holdings on the hillsides make up the local commercial demand.
